What is VOIP

VoiP stands for voice over internet protocol. This technology allows people to make phone calls over a broadband internet connection without having to use a landline phone. Some of these companies only allow their customers to make calls to other people using the same company. Most companies allow phone calls to be sent to anyone who has a phone number.

Using VoiP service makes phone calls inexpensive compared to using a cell phone or landline phone. Sometimes, VoiP is free. VoiP is becoming popular, and more people are starting to use the service.

There are many advantages using VoiP. The main advantage is the cost. It’s significally cheaper to use VoiP compared to other alternatives. Using VoiP usually has more features compared to cell phones and landline phones. VoiP is high-quality compared to alternatives.

If you’ve never heard of VoiP before and you don’t know what it is, Skype is a perfect example. Skype uses VoiP technology to make phone calls to people all over the world. Skype allows people to use this technology worldwide without being charged a fee. Skype made VoiP technology popular.

If you have a computer, a microphone, speakers and a good internet connection, you can use VoiP for free. It’s possible to use VoiP for free using your cell phone and landline.

VoiP is best for people who would like to make international phone calls. You may not be able to get all of the phone calls for free, but it would be significantly cheaper compared to other services.

Depending on the service provider you use for VoiP service, you may not be able to get 911 service. Some companies offer this, and some companies don’t. Phone directories and 411 may not be available using these services as well.

While some companies offer 911 service, it may not be valuable. If you call the number requiring emergency assistance and you’re unable to tell them your location, it may be difficult or impossible to track the location you’re calling from.

If you have a VoiP phone, you should be able to take it with you wherever you go. All you need to do is have it connected to the internet. If you don’t have it connected to the internet, you won’t be able to receive incoming calls.

VoiP services requires power. During power outages, you won’t be able to receive or make phone calls. VoiP phones connect to routers or cable modems. Routers and cable modems rely on electricity in order to work. Some service providers offer equipment with batteries during power outages. The equipment will last for several hours. Unfortunately, the equipment with batteries is to be used with landline phones.

Security is the biggest issue facing VoiP services. Since these services connect over the internet, hackers can gain access to personal information. Hackers are able to record conversations, hack voicemail and store personal information. While a hacker can gain access to these systems, it’s unlikely that it’ll happen.

Caller identification can be used with most VoiP services. Some companies don’t offer this feature.
